Carving

The tribe's headquarters is in Kingston, Washington. The tribe is governed by a democratically-elected, six-member tribal

council, that includes:

The people of the S'Klallam people carved eagles, ravens, canoe paddles and masks. Most of the artists are inspired by the amazing "Northern Salish" Style, which is what you see in many art pieces made by the S'Klallam Tribe.

THE END!

Tools

They used baskets for berries, and also baskets so tight, they could hold water. They used traps for salmon, and a fork-like tool to catch herring. In the winter, they hung nets from trees to catch ducks.

Language

The Klallam Language is the language of the people of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, and the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe.

There are different dialects in the different areas.

Food

The S'Klallam people have recipes nowadays for

Fry bread, Smoked Salmon, and Clam Chowder. A long time ago, they hunted and ate seals, crabs, salmon, and lots more. To this day, they still eat crab and salmon.

The Mill

In 1853, the port gamble mill was created by the Puget Mill Company, owned by Andrew J. Pope and Frederic Talbot (hence the name, Pope Resources). The S'Klallam people were forced to move across the bay to Point Julia, and rebuild their entire village. However, the Mill promised to supply new materials for rebuilding.

S'Klallam History

A presentation by Eli, Kylie, Rowan, and Satya

Satya

The S'Klallam people lived in three different

places (including Jamestown, Elwa, and Little Boston), but we are researching Little Boston. They relied on the bay and river for food, travel, and spiritual beliefs.
