The metamorphic rock is one of the 3 main types of rock and it is part of the rock cycle. Metamorphic rock forms down beneath Earth's surface when it's really hot and things are pressing on the rock really hard the pressure is applied to either igneous rock or sedimentary rock. Metamorphic rocks are most commonly found on or near mountain ranges. Heat and pressure from colliding tectonic plates. The types of metamorphic rock are genesis, phylactery, schist, and slate. Those rocks look beaten up because they were exposed to heat and lots of pressure. This type of metamorphic rock does not have a beaten up appearance because it is made of mostly calcium carbonate and the rock is marble.
A rock is made up of many different minerals. Each rock does not have identical structures. Believe it or not some rocks come through space called meteorites, some meteorites are made of different minerals than an Earth rock. But usually they are made of iron. Sometimes when a meteorite hits Mars, parts of rock go into space . Some of those rocks get trapped in Earth's gravitational field and then finally come down to Earth's surface. This information is from http://www.ducksters.com/science/rocks.php and Mr. Hogamen.
Sedimentary rock is part of the rock cycle and is one of the 3 main types of rocks on Earth. The 3 main types of rock include igneous rock, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock. Sedimentary rock forms by deposition of the remains of broken rocks and from rain wearing away the rock. Turning it into small bits of rocks. As it piles, pressure builds up, making them stuck together in layers and finally turning it into a solid rock. This process is known as lithification. Sedimentary rock also forms by erosion and where the wind carries sediment it then lands, and gets mixed together forming sedimentary rock. The types of sedimentary rock are limestone, sandstone, chalk, clay, and shale.
