Andy uses his last bit of energy to take off the royals jacket. This is so important to Andy because before he dies he wants to be known as himself rather then being known as a royal because the royals logo is the reason he got killed.
A symbol is when something represents something other than what it actually is. In the short story "On the Sidewalk Bleeding" an example of a symbol is Andy's Royals jacket. On the back of the jacket is the Royals logo which represents a gang. Being in a gang stereotypes that you live a life of crime and you are a bad person. The person wearing the jacket is in danger every time he/she puts on the jacket. If a rival gang or police officer notices your jacket and what it represents he/she will not see the person for who they really are but for who they think you are. This could mean somebody getting hurt or even getting killed.
Andy is a round character, he is round due to his complex traits. Andy is tough, courageous, and loving. Andy is courageous because he took off the jacket which meant he left the Royals.
Andy is a dynamic character because the traits of his emotions change over the course of the story. An example of this is when Andy thinks of his girlfriend Laura and his entire viewpoint on life changes to be more about himself rather then to be a royal.
Andy's jacket labels him as a royal, therefore the people who find him in the alley do not want to help because they portray him as a gangster. So against their better judgment they decide to leave Andy to die.
The setting in this story directly contributes to the atmosphere because the setting gives off an image of a dark, rugged, rough place located in New York. This type of setting makes the reader feel as if during this time it was everybody for themselves and you always had to watch your back. An example of this is when Andy is laying in the alley bleeding and people come up to him but no one actually cares enough to help him.
