Carl was also known as Coral, or "The Sunday Morning Slasher.
Carl was born on November 7, 1953, in Texas, to Richard Eugene Watts and Dorothy Mae Young. When he was two years old they divorced, and he moved with his mother and sister, Sharon, to Michigan. He spent a lot of time with his grandparents and cousins, who would draw out his name into Coral because of their accents. He liked the way they said it and what coral reefs were. He also liked to hunt and skin rabbits with his grandfather.
He later on contracted meningitis, along with his sister. The doctors refused to help Coral, so then he eventually had high fevers and contracted polio too. He had to get spinal taps and he started to have memory lapses. He missed all of third grade. He was extremely athletic, excelling on the football field, baseball diamond, and in the boxing ring.
His mother remarried to a man who had six kids, Coral was quiet and shy, so he didn't get as much attention. He kept everything inside, but when he let them out, he became volatile. He was never violent though. His love of sports is what let his frustrations out. Coral was accepted into Lane College on a football scholarship, but couldn't finish the year due to a servere knee injury.
Coral was one of the only known African American serial killers in America. His number of killings made him one of America's most prolific serial killers.
When asked if he had enough fingers and toes to count his victims, he looked around the room and counted five people, including himself, and said "There's not enough fingers and toes in this room." He killed over 100 women in the span of 8 years.
When he was 12, he began having dreams about killing women with "evil eyes." Slowly, those dreams became reality, and he had started driving hours away from home to stalk women with the evil eyes. He would either stab, slash, hang or drown his victims. Always on Sundays.
