After all Atticus's great defense, Tom Robinson is still found guilty. Jem is very upset with this and still cannot understand why he is guilty after hearing the Ewell's story. Jem and Scout come to a reality of the evilness of human nature.

Scout, Jem and Dill become interested in making Boo Radley come out of his house by teasing him. Meanwhile, Atticus agreeed to defend a blank man, Tom Robinson, who was accused of raping a white woman. As the trial was on, it was beyond Jem that the judge thought that Tom Robinson was innocent because of the Ewell's Story.

Tom was shot while he was trying to escape prison, Jem still cannot understand about the trial and why he was shot. After, Bob Ewell threatens Atticus many times and one night as Jem and Scout were walking home Bob Ewell attacks them. But, all of sudden a man saves Jem and Scout's lives, it was Boo Radley. He had stabbed Ewell but that shrieff is saying that Ewell fell on his own knife. Scout meets Boo face to face and Boo goes home and never comes back out after that incident.

Scout and Jem childhood is getting destroyed by the incidents that happen that show the evil side of human nature. Like, the Tom Robinson's Trial. They have trouble keeping their faith in human goodness.
