Transcript of In what was does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my film opening, I used a normal looking house that can be easily identified as a family house. I did this as in two examples of slashers, in their opening scenes, they have a victim being killed in a house similar to the one I used. Those examples being Scream and Halloween where in both, a teenager is killed in their own home. I also challenged this genre by having added scenes of cooking with the intent of confusing the audience, until the end where they find out the two sequences are linked.

The costumes I used are fitting to the genre as my opening only consists of a teenager lounging around at home, so it is fitting that he is wearing jeans and a hoodie, as it is casual, similar to Drew Barrymore's character in Scream. My killer is wearing all black, as he is trying to sneak into a house. so it is fitting that he is wearing black jeans, a black t-shirt, and a black over coat with a hood.
I used many slow dolley shots during the opening as they convey the creeping nature of the killer. Especially when the killer is turning the corner trying to act slyly, sneaking into this family's property. It helps show the audience then nature of the killer, by looking at his movement.

Question 1
One way in which my opening scene challenges the slasher genre is my choice of music and sound. In most horror/slasher openings, they use music that fits the scene, so for example, Scream has no music behind it for most of it, with just the sound of outside noises, whilst my movie has classical music playing throughout. So this challenges the genre musically.
Another example of how my opening develops on the slasher/horror genre with it's title. My title is simply just white text over a black background. Examples of real life products that have similar titles to mine are "Scream" & "Halloween". Both titles are simple, with Scream's just being white text over a black background, and Halloween, is just orange text on a black background.
Later in the scene, when the victim is being closed in on by the killer, I decided to make it a fast pace sequence to make it feel more urgent
