Impact
- The internal combustion engine had an extreme impact on society. Some of these were positive impacts, some negative.
- NEGATIVE: Though the name says "internal" combustion engine, this only means the combustion of gas occures on the inside of the engine. Harmful gases are still released into the atmosphere. This pollution is caused by the incompletion of the combustion of some carbonaceous fuels. After a while, the pollution adds up to come back and harm humans. The I.C.E. is also contributing to noise pollution.
- POSITIVE: The I.C.E. is very efficient and (though gas prices don't show it) cheap. The engine not only helped innovate the car, but also other machines, aircraft, and vehicles. Ideas build upon one another to create new and improved inventions, and the internal combustion engine was a strong basis for the future.
