Mexican Repatriation Act

Overcrowding

During the Great Depression, jobs were scarce so many people packed up their few remaining possessions and traveled west looking for work. Many stopped in the Midwest, in the Oklahoma area specifically, but due to the terrible drought called the Dust Bowl, they had to keep moving farther west. California and the surrounding area was the home of many Mexican immigrants. They worked there as crop laborers and various other jobs. As the area began to be overpopulated, this act was passed, forcing many Mexican immigrants and their families back to Mexico. Unfortunately, many families were seperated. Even children of immigrants who were legal citizens were often sent to Mexico, a place they had never even lived.
