D5 Half Normal Saline
Replacement fluid therapy
WHAT IS DEXTROSE IN FOOD?
Dextrose in food is a simple sugar. Glucose is our body's main fuel, and while the digestive system braks down food eaten into glucose, carbohydrates provide the most amount of raw materials for glucose. Honey- 30 percent dextrose, Corn Syrup- 20 and 98 percent dextrose, SWEETS, PROCESSED FOODS (Dextrose is a common artificial sweetener),
The initial goal of treating dehydration is to restore intravascular volume(Blood plasma is the yellow liquid component of blood in which the blood cells in whole blood are normally suspended). The simplest approach is to replace dehydration losses with 0.9% saline. This ensures that the administered fluid remains in the extracellular (body fluid that is not contained in cells) (intravascular{fluid within the cells}) compartment, where it will do the most good to support blood pressure and peripheral perfusion(process of delivery of blood to a capillary bed in the biological tissue)..

The body breaks down foods with starchy carbohydrates into monosaccharides and disaccharides (molecules contain two monosaccharide). The main sugar that is produced is glucose which is used to make adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the energy source for the body's cells. Glucose, in its biologically active form of dextrose, is used to manufacture proteins and plays a role in lipid metabolism
Found in the cell, high in potassium and low in sodium
and usually containing dissolved solutes (solid that is dissolved in a liquid).
found in blood, in lymph, in body cavities lined with serous (moisture-exuding) membrane, in the cavities and channels of the brain and spinal cord, and in muscular and other body tissues. has a high concentration of sodium and low concentration of potassium.
Side Effects of Saline: Sodium Chloride Solution - Intravenous
- Whem made and used properly saline is considered safe. Most people don't have side effects to this drug but mild pain, swelling and redness can take place. Serious side effects are difficulty breathing, muscle cramps and swelling in ankles, hands and feet.
- People with high blood pressure or kidney problems should generally not have saline IVs or injections, since it expands blood vessels and can cause edema.
What is D5 Half Normal Saline?
- Dextrose is a form of glucose, simple sugar, and a monosaccharide (type of simple carbohydrate, or simple sugar).
- Monosaccharide has 20 types that occur naturally and 50 that are formed synthetically. Well-known ones are glucose, fructose (sugar of the hexose class found in honey and fruits), and galactose (constituent of lactose and many polysaccharides). All are absorbed directly into the bloodstream during digestion.
What is Saline?
- Saline solution is a mixture of sodium chloride (NaCl), or salt, and sterile water.
- It is available in several concentrations, but the most common one is 0.9% sodium chloride in water.
- It's typically used for medical purposes, and is found in intravenous (IV), (liquid substances directly into a vein) drips, contact lens solution, and nasal irrigation sprays.
