Opera Seria is an opera, usually one that's from the 18th century and presented in Italian. This Opera is usually a very serious themed Opera or it can sometimes be mythological themed. Compared to Opera Buffa it is quite different because that is funnier while Opera Seria is more tragic and dramatic. The term itself was rarely used at the time and only achieved common usage once opera seria was becoming more popular and in the beginning it was viewed as a historical genre. Opera Seria would be more sacred because it is more religous compared to secular which has nothing to do with religion.
