Which antibacterial disinfectant works more efficiently on bacteria from the hand ?
We hypothesize that the antibacterial hand sanitizer will be more efficient.
Independent: Antibacterial disinfectant
Dependant: Growth of bacteria
Constant: length of washing hands
Bacteria are living microorganisms and they are found everywhere, they are even found on our hands. Bacteria are asexual meaning offspring come from a single organism and only have genes from the one parent. In order for bacteria to grow it needs water, air, and a carbon source.
If you were to use sanitizer that contains 62% ethyl alcohol on your hands , then it will kill most of the bacteria that is present on the hand.
7 petri dish
7 sterile swabs
hand sanitizer (62 % ethanol)
antibacterial hand soap
ziplock bag
e.coli bacteria
Positive: E. Coli bacteria
Negative: Petri dish without bacteria
Positive control and negative control
Data
Mean of colonies= 32.88
Standard Deviation=39.06
Discussion
We were limited on the number of people we had to use
The bacteria on the hands
Based on our data, a new question that could be raised: What factors contributed to the hand sanitizer working better?
Anti bacterial soap
Hand sanitizer
To improve the experiment we could repeat the experiment or we could try it on other people.
