Nora's dress is first mentioned on page 26, the fancy-dress ball itself is mentioned on page 25.

Nora asks for assistance from Torvald to help her pick out

the dress, she claims that she herself can not pick out a

dress worthy of the fancy-dress ball. This shows the theme of how the male dominated the home during this period. "There is no one has such good tates as you. And i don so want to look nice at the fancy-dress ball. Torvald, Couldnt you take me in hand and decide what i shall go as and what sort of dress I shall wear? Pg. 26. "Yes, Torvald, I can't get along a bit without your help." Pg. 26

The second "dress" symbolizes deception, because she only faked having the second dress so that she could talk to Krogstad. Which Nora did not actually want to talk to Krogstad, he wanted to talk to her. "Nora. Speak low- my husband is at home. Krog. Nomatter about that. Nora. What do you want of me? Krog. An explenation of something." Pg. 42. "Nora. What is it you want of me? Krog. ONly to see how you were, Mrs. Helmer. I have been thinking about you all day long. A mere cashier a quill driver, a-- well, a man like me-- even he has a little of what is called feeling, you know." Pg 43

The reason that she wanted to talk to krogstad and made up the "second" dress, is because she wanted to talk to Krogstad about the letter that was sitting in the glass mail box. "IN the letter box. [Steals across to the the hall door.] There it lies-- Torvald, orvald, there is no hope for us now!" Pg. 45

"That letter is from Krogstad. ... Yes, and now torvald will know all about it." Pg 46

Krogstad has been blackmailing Nora, this because Nora forged her fathers signature when recieving a loan from him. Nora is afraid of Torvald finding out about the loan because Torvald talked earlier about how Krogstad had done bad by forging a signature and this is why Krogstad must be fired.

Krogstad was blackmailing Nora so that she could try and get him his job back. Krogstad gets impatient when Nora can not convince Torvald to let Krogstad to keep his job, so Krogstad sends a letter to Nora's house in which Nora can not get the letter out of the box because she doesn't have the key, only Torvald does. "My Husband must never get to know anything about it." Pg. 43

Our theme of the poem is that, "If you try make life perfect than more bad things will come your way, but if you take what you get and do your best to look at the bright side then in the longer run life will turn out better." (when life gives you lemons... make lemonade.) All throughout the story Nora is trying to hide what she has done from her husband instead of telling him and trying to make the best out of the situation, for all she knows it could have made their relationship closer.

Patriarchal

A Doll's House is mainly patriarchal throughout the book, even though at the end it moves towards feminism. While the book is Patriachal, it talks bad about patriarchal and thinks that it is not a proper way to run a society. "In A Doll's House, fatherhood, ordinarily associated with the authority and stability of patriachy is associate with abandonment, illness, absence, and corruption." Pg. 84. This quote shows how while the society is patriarchal of this society, it is also a mockery of patriarchy, so in a sense it is a feminist book.

Gender Roles of A Doll's House

This all connects to the dress because the original and first dress symbolizes the male control over the female. Nora is completley afraid of her husband finding out about the terrible deed that she commited. Since Torvald is a banker, commiting fraud and forging a signature is a big deal, it als shows that she completley loves her husband. Also we can state that patriarchal societies are not an effective way to live.
