I thought the tag line “she wants to play” was effective because you don’t know who the poster is talking about; the doll or the girl. I used a dot effect behind “play” in red to show conventions of blood, denoting that the term “play” has a sinister atmosphere about it.

I have used “Dead central” for my critic review as they are known for their reviews on various horror movies. I used the phrase “its spine chilling” because the language is effective in the colour grey because it has conventions of lifelessness, isolation and mystery.

THANKS FOR WATCHING.

What we bring to the market

The theme of "horror" attracts a niche audience who are most likely a fan of scary films. Our horror is about a child who become possessed by a cursed doll. This area for horror is open as many horror themes today follow the style of "paranormal activity" where it is presented as a cheap home made movie to make the audience feel like it is real.

We wanted to move away from this popular theme because it will be new and exciting for the audience to watch instead of watching a copy of paranormal activity over and over again.

The target audince for this movie would be teenagers to young adults between the ages of 15 and 30 because by making it a 15 rated movie, this means it can extent to a wider audience of teenagers who will go in groups to see the film, bringing in more publicity and money.

How effective is the combination

of your main product and ancillary texts?

The advertising poster.

The magazine front cover

I used the “Papryus” font for the title “Dolly” because it looks simple yet sinister as the red shows conventions of blood and danger

I began with the basic conventions of a poster such as the

BDFC certificate, the company which had made the film i.e.

Hammer and paramount and also the institutional information.

his means that I have all the basic conventions of a poster.

I used the contrast tool so that I could darken out the girl’s face to make her look

“eerie” and “anonymous” so that all the audience can focus on is the doll I used the burn tool Make her hair brighter as well as her

PJ’s which make her look “innocent”

As they have hearts on them.

What do they

have in common?

I then added the extra cover stories to see if it looked effective which I believe it now does. I also added the cross symbol as many of Empire’s magazines have this symbol above their cover stories. Finally, I added the main story cover for my magazine about our horror “dolly” I have used the same font as my poster “papyrus” to keep the theme of the title and I added a shadow backdrop so it stands out against the photo but it also adds an eerie effect.

I then added the title “Empire” for my magazine. I chose Empire because it is a successful and popular magazine so it would be great publicity for a new horror movie especially if it is a “special horror edition” because Empire rarely does that which makes it more appealing for people because it is different. I used the drop shadow effect to make a slight darkness overshadow empire to go with the “spooky” theme of horror.

I used the magic wand tool to cut around the girl, then using the blur tool I blurred the outside of her image to blend in with the background. I used the burn tool to make her hair stand out brightly against her face which

I then saturated to show conventions of lifelessness as her face has no colour. I darkened her eyes out again but kept the eyes of the doll, to suggest that the doll is “normal” but the girl is not.

I used the numbers 13 and 6 because they are associated with the devil so if it is released on this date it will make the audience feel nervous but excited to see it. I also added a website “playwithdolly.com” which means the audience can interact with the film as well as make them excited to see what will happen if you go onto the website to “play with dolly” I used the colour red for the date to make it stand out but also conventions of danger.

I decided to move the model to the

right of the page because that way you

will be able to see the other cover lines

and also the full view of the girl holding

the doll so the writing doesn’t cover

the dolls face. Also I made the banners

smaller so you can see more of the girl’s

face and her bare foot which I thought

was effective because it shows her

vulnerability.

I added the small details such As the bar code, date, a website

so that the reader can find more Information online about

the issue and a price of the Magazine. I also added a

banner at the bottom with information telling the reader

that there is information on the top 100 horrors empire likes

which will interest the audienceTo see if they agree.

Distribution

The distribtution of the trailer aside from the advertisement poster and the magazine feature would most likely be viral. We have already created the "playwithdolly" website idea showing that it can be accesses globally from the internet. Other features of viral marketing would be Facebook, twitter and YouTube which would allow people to watch the trailer online. We would also use television advertisement for the trailer on specific channels such as sky horror or other channels which associate with horror genres.

We also like the idea of a private early screening for members

who win a chance to see the movie before anyone else. This could be done through a competition on "playwithdolly" which means that it is interacting with the audience, making it exciting to play the games with Dolly hoping to win a chance for an exclusive viewing.

They both have the same colour scheme of red and grey this makes them blend well together and also shows that they are from the same movie. The images both show the girl holding the doll and and the doll is always tightly clutched to the child which also shows the similarities within the imagery. I have used the same font for the title "Dolly" in the magazine the same as the font throughout the poster as this also shows the connection between them and that the "Papyrus" font is the signature of dolly. Finally one each of the images the main protagonist's face is blackened out, showing that she is mysertious but also because it is her eyes that are blackened out it also suggests that so is her soul as the old saying goes. "The eyes are the key to the soul" and so we are left with little identity of the girl
