Cue For Treason

by William Shakespeare

Greatest Escapes:

1. Peter seems to be trapped when Sir Phillip Morton spots him during the play. Peter's will and determination carries him into one of the actors' costume box where Peter lays there breathless. Peter is unharmed and on his way to the city of Kendal, England.

2. Peter and Kit are retaining one of Shakespeare's scripts. Peter has to climb to the top window of the tall building, where he over hears the yellow jacket man(Sir David Vicars) and others talking about plans. While Kit distracts the men, Peter sneaks into the room and recovers the script for an upcoming play. While in the boat the yellow jacketed man hears Peter.... Peter must then do his best impersonation of a couple kissing and making noise.

3. Once Peter escapes from Sir Duncan he is seen by Sir Phillip Morton who orders two of his men to chase and capture Peter... By the end of this speedy chase all three men are very tired, especially Peter. Peter decides if he doesn't do something quick he'll be caught so he tricks the first guy and trips him to some very fatal injuries. The second guy just gives up

4.While searching for Sir Tom, Peter is knocked out and wakes up on a strange island with Sir Duncan taking care of him. Sir Duncan warns Peter that Sir Phillip is coming very soon to punish and question Peter. Peter tries to escape from the island but after not eating for a long time he is captured once again. As Sir Duncan goes into the small house to get food and warmth Peter unties himself and knocks out a surprised Sir Duncan. Peter understands that he must leave this rainy island before Sir Phillip arrives and also to rejoin Kit.

5.kit and Peter are ambushed by a crazy red headed miner and his friends. The redhead takes both their prized horses(which they stole) and their money and is about to drop them into a very deep hole... But ironically(situational) Sir Phillip Morton scares of these crazy people off and Kit and Peter are saved from near death by their biggest enemy(unintentionally).

Villains:

Sir Phillip Morton: Sir Phillip Morton is the main "villain" in this book and causes a lot of stress to peoples lives, such as everyone in peter and kit's villages. Also he was the one behind trying to kill the queen and taking over the strongest nation in the world at the time.

Sir David Vicars(yellow jacket guy): Sir David vicars stole Shakespeare's script from Peter and wrote a horrible sonnet intended to be code for one of his other evil friends. Sir David seemed to be in the middle of all this evilness along with Sir Phillip Morton and he seemed to be the second in command.

The Crazy Red Head: This crazy man ambushed Kit and Peter and captured them. Something Sir Phillip Morton could never do. The crazy re head had all the intention of pushing Kit and Peter into a hole which seemed to be described almost like an abyss. The crazy red head had no guilt about his action and if Sir Phillip Morton hadn't scared him off he would have pushed them into the hole. With all this evilness and the feeling of no guilt and near inhumane actions, i list this crazy red head as a villain.

Cue For Treason

Additional heroes:

Mr. and Mrs. Desmond: Mr. and Mrs. Desmond helped Peter and Kit when they had no place to go. Both Desmond's gave Peter and kit a job and money. Even when the company split up for a month or so the Desmond's made sure that Peter and Kit had a place to go and preform. Also the Desmond's helped Kit and Peter capture Sir Phillip and were willing to give two of their horses so Kit and Peter could send the message.

Peter's Dad: Peter's father helped both Kit and Peter escape from Sir Phillip when they returned back home to Cumberland England. When Peter was convicted of hitting Sir Phillip with a rock, Peter's father was calm, cool and collected and i think this gave Peter a little bit more confidence knowing his dad had faith in him. I also believe this made Peter grow up a little faster which later led to Peter being the leader of operation save the queen. All these things lead to me giving Peter's dad the title of a 'hero'.

Shakespeare: William Shakespeare is a hero in this book(and in real life) because when Kit and Peter got denied by every company in London, Shakespeare stepped in and mentored them into becoming two of the best actors in London(thus giving them a job). Without this acting job they never would have lost the script, thus not being able to find out Sir Phillip Morton's plan to shoot the queen and take over England.

Courageous Acts

Peter and kit are a huge part of saving the queen from being shot and killed. Both Kit and Peter had to sacrifice a lot of their energy to ensure that the cue was not signaled and the cannons were not fired for the men to fire the shot to kill the queen.

Peter gets his script of Shakespeare's play stolen by Sir David Vicars but him and Kit successfully get it back. While Kit distracts the men, Peter sneaks in and gets the script back without harm. This is a courageous act because they risked their lives to get Shakespeare's script back so those "pirates" couldn't steal his play.

While waiting very long for Tom's signal that everything is clear Peter takes action and searches Sir Phillip Morton's Peele Tower for the suddenly vanished Tom. Peter later hears that Tom was shot and killed and he can confirm this because there is blood on the stairs.

Kit is just about to come onto the stage for her part as Juliet when she suddenly rushes away and runs out the door. Everyone is surprised by this sudden change of action but the play must go on so Peter is pushed into the role of Juliet while staring right at his top enemy, Sir Phillip Morton!Peter does a great job and receives a standing ovation.

Mr. Desmond gets hurt in a lake near London and Peter goes after him but is not strong enough to get Mr. Desmond out by himself. However Kit comes to both of their rescue and saves Mr. Desmond who later reveals he has a broken leg.

Themes:

1.It is important to help others despite risk to yourself: Peter left his family and home in Cumberland, England to risk his life(being caught and punished by Sir Phillip Morton) to save the lives of his neighbours. Also Kit and Peter put their lives in serious danger by joining the secret service of the queen in order to stop Sir Phillip Morton from assassinating the queen and taking over the thrown.

2. Bravery, noble ideals and heroism inspire us and raise our spirits: Kit and Peter were very brave and excellent heroes which in turn raised the spirits of the queen and anyone they told their story too. Seeing Kit and Peter being brave and risking their lives really caused the Desmond's to help them capture Sir Phillip. Two young kids risking their lives to save the queen inspired everyone to do their parts in order to help Kit and Peter and to also help keep the queen alive.

3. Good Will always triumphs in the end: As soon as Kit and Peter learned about Sir Phillip and Sir David's plans to kill the queen, Kit and Peter put absolutely all their energy into making sure the great country of England would not be ruled by Sir Phillip Morton. Kit and Peter definitely had the good will to stop Sir Phillip which is why they prevailed in the end. Hence the theme " good will always triumphs in the end".

Setting

Peele Tower: The peele tower is owned by Sir Phillip Morton and is a large tower covered by trees. It doesn't have many windows and toward the side of it is an area for you to rest your horses. There is not a lot of windows and cracks to allow sunlight through so if you go in it you should probably bring a few candles. Its located just outside of Cumberland.

The globe: The Globe is a very large theatre which is owned by Shakespeare. It has a lot of seats meant for large crowds and there is a trap door located near the front(down stage)/middle of the stage.Toward the back is an area for actors to rest and also their change rooms.

London, England: Its a very large city with many attractions but the main one back then was theatre which they were all located just outside of the city. Around the city is a lake(where Mr.Desmond broke his leg) and a lot of small villages like Cumberland and Ullswater. In the center of the city is the "big Ben" clock tower and the palace in which queen Elizabeth lived.

Additional Info about William Shakespeare

Sir Robert Cecil

Sir Robert Cecil was born June 1,1563 in Westminster, England. He was an English administer and politician who was made a Secretary of State in 1590. He studied and got his education at the university of Cambridge in England. He was known to be a highly intelligent person. He also was trained in spy craft by by the son of Lord Burghley and a potégé of Sir Francis Walsingham in order to serve for the queen. Sir Robert Cecil died May 24,1612 in Marlborough, England.

Shakespeare wrote about 37-40 plays in his years as a poet. Shakespeare did preform from time to time in his own plays ie. the ghost in hamlet. Most of his plays were comedies such as Measure for Measure. Some people say Shakespeare was great but he didn't write enough original poems and play. The Elizabethan Theatre made plays around the same time as Shakespeare and anyone who didn't like Shakespeare liked Christopher Marlowe.

Conflict

Person vs Person: Peter vs Sir Phillip Morton because Sir Phillip takes over Peter's family and his neighbour's land to create. Also throughout the book its Peter(and Kit) trying to stop Sir Phillip from shooting queen Elizabeth l and taking over the thrown. Peter and Sir Phillip have many encounter and each one is trying to stop the other which makes this a big conflict between people.

Person vs Society: Kit must hide that everything about her including the fact that she is a girl in order to chase her dream and become an actor in a big play. Back in the Elizabethan times, society did not commend girls to be actors but to rather stay at home and accompany their husbands. Kit knew this that's why she dressed as a boy and that's why its a conflict between society and person.

Person vs self: Once Peter figured out that Kit was a girl he had inner conflict because before that time, Peter and Kit were not the best of friends and he had a little pride lost from her. The conflict was whether to tell Mr. and Mrs. Desmond about Kit being a girl and kick her out of the company for lying and impersonating or to except the fact that she was a girl getting to live her dream as an actor. Peter made the right choice, which as to deal with it and help her keep her secret.

Person vs nature: When Peter escaped the grasp of Sir Anthony Duncan and was on his way out of the island he had to deal with heavy rain and also ice cold water with an empty stomach. Peter swam to safety luckily but there was certainly conflict with nature.Just as Peter knocked Sir Duncan out cold with his stone a huge wind began to form and thunder echoed throughout the island.

Queen Elizabeth I

Queen Elizabeth was born September 7,1533 in Greenwich, England. Elizabeth's father, King Henry VIII of England had a baby with Anne Boleyn intended to be a baby boy so he could one day take over after King Henry VIII but instead(and fortunately) the baby was Queen Elizabeth the first.Elizabeth became queen of England and Ireland in November 17,1558. Queen Elizabeth was known as "the virgin queen" because she had no children. In fact the state of Virginia in the USA is named after her and her nickname. She is one of the best known people in the world and was also very polarizing(either way). She sadly died March 24(my Birthday), 1603 in Richmond Palace.

William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was believed to be born April 23, 1564(no official birth date) in Stratford- upon-Avon, England. He was baptized April 26, 1564(that's how people believe he was born April 23). William Shakespeare married Anne Hatheway in 1582 and together they had 3 kids. The first was Suzanne, then Hamnet and Judith but sadly Hamnet died at the young age of 7 years old. Hamnet and Judith were twins. Since Shakespeare's house was so crowded due to his parents also living in the house, Shakespeare decided to find work in London, England where early on he was a good actor. William ignoliged that his talent was not as an actor but as a poet and play writer. Shakespeare became one of the best poets of all time and was one of queen Elizabeth's favourites, his nickname was"the bard" William had a playhouse called the globe but it was unfortunately burnt down. A few years later Shakespeare returned home and died April 23, 1616(his 52 birthday) in his home town of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Sir Francis Bacon

Sir Francis Bacon was born January 22,1561 in London, England. He is a cousin of Sir Robert Cecil which the book does say. Sir Francis Bacon served as an attorney general and a Lord Chancellor of England. He was called the creator of empiricism and was knighted in 1603 for his good work. Sir Francis Died April 9,1626 in Highgate,England.
