Why is kwanzaa celebrated?

How is Kwanzaa celebrated?

When does Kwanzaa occur?

3 years after Martin Luther King Jr. began his protest and march, Dr.Karenga joined and helped by creating Kwanzaa. Dr. Karenga's hopes were to bring the african americans together in one community.

Dr. Karenga was the professor of the Black Studies of California State University in Long Beach. All though lots of people knew him back then, I feel people don't realize how important he is now. He brang african americans together.

Dr. Karenga created Kwanzaa's seven principles(n-GU-zo-SAH-bah). And these seven principles are: Umoja (oo-MO-jah), Kuijichagulia (koo-jee-chah-GOO-lee-ah) Ujima (oo-Jee-mah) Ujamaa (oo-jah-mah-ah) Nia (Nee-ah) Kuumba (koo-oom-bah) Imani (ee-MAH-nee). These principles having different meanings. Umoja means unity, Kuijichagulia means self determination, Ujima means collective work & responsiblity. Ujamma means cooperative. Nia means purpose. Kuumba means creativity. And Imani means faith.

Kwanzaa starts on December 26th and ends on January 1st. It's not a moving holiday meaning it has to start on the 26th and end on the 1st.
