Why is obesity a problem?

Conclusion

Obesity creates heath problems that can not be reversed.

Diabetes: Nine of the 10 states with the highest type 2 diabetes rates are in the South.

Hypertension: all ten states with the highest rates of hypertension are in the South.

Food insecurity: More than 14 percent of U.S. households (17.4 million) are "food insecure" defined by U.S. Department of Agriculture as having their access to adequate food and nutrition limited due to cost, proximity or other resources.

In my opinion, people do not change until a major life altering emergence happens. When someone has a medical problem associated with weight they tend to change the path they were on. However, many do not listen to the warning signs of the body and seek medical treatment.

Also, if we were to hope to change the problem with obesity we need to start with the next generation. Making these kids want to exercise and eat healthy is not as hard as one thinks if they were raised not picky.

Physical Inactivity: Sixty percent of adults are not sufficiently active to achieve health benefits.

In Louisiana?

Louisiana now has the fourth highest adult obesity rate in the nation.

Obesity as a Whole

More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese

Approximately 17% (or 12.7 million) of children and adolescents aged 2—19 years are obese

No state had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%.

  • Easy access to cheap, high-calorie fast food and junk food.
  • Food portions are bigger than they used to be, both in restaurants and at home.
  • Kids are consuming a huge amount of sugar in sweetened drinks and hidden in an array of foods.
  • Kids spend less time actively playing outside, and more time watching TV, playing video games, and sitting at the computer.
  • Many schools are eliminating or cutting back their physical education programs.

In Adults:

Learn the seriousness of childhood obesity

The main problem with adults is that they are set in their ways.

Physical activity is important for health and a healthy weight:

  • Encourage healthy eating habits
  • Make favorite dishes healthier
  • Remove calorie-rich temptations
  • Help your kids understand the benefits of being physically active
  • Help them stay active by reducing sedentary time

The best way to help is to try to change for the children

Everyone has different necessities for their certain body types.

You must learn about different kinds of physical activities and the guidelines for the amount needed each day.
