A dominant plant in the tropical rain forest is the broadleaf evergreen tree. They're unlike evergreens that grow in colder parts of the United States, the evergreens in the tropical rain forest have no protection against cold weather or droughts. These trees grow to heights of 90 feet and form a canopy
The tropical rainforest is a hot, humid biome where it rains all yeal long, they are located close to the equator. It's known for it's three dense layers of vegetation. Despite being home to the most diverse and unique species on earth it is one of the most threatened biomes. It is the biome with the most biodiversity, rivaled only by the coral reefs.
Another type of plant that is dominant in the tropical rainforest is the epiphytes, which is a plant that grows on other plants
The tropical rainforest is filled with insects of all kinds because it's wet humid weather is perfect for them
The amount of rainfall in the tropical rainforest is about 50 to 260 inches per year!
Tropical rainforests belong to the tropical wet climate group. The temperature in a tromical rainforest forest rarely gets higher than 93 °F and it rarely drops below 68 °F. The average humidity is between 77 and 88%.
Other than insects the tropical raiforest is filled with birds, predominantly Toucans, which are birds with large beaks. They live in the lower layers of the rainforest because they cannot fly very well
Most tropical rainforest soils relatively poor in nutrients. The millions of years of weathering and torrential rains have washed most of the nutrients out of the soil.
One of the major land features in a tropical rainforest are the mountains. For example, the largest mountain in a tropical rainforest is located in the Amazon rainforest.
