Ms Patterson, a qualified psychotherapist and youth counsellor, she wanted to start up her own private practice. So she places an advertisement in the local newspaper where she lived. Peter saw this advertisement and it struck an interest of his. It is unknown how Peter found out what Nicole looked like but it was clear that he was attracted to her. He attempts to make contact with her 6 weeks before she was killed. It is likely that Peter already thought about attacking her that time. Peter made several calls to her phone between the 3 March and 12 April when the appointment to see her was made. This is evidence that Mr Dupas was stalking Nicole to gather the necessary information for him to feel comfortable in continuing his endeavor. Peter manipulates Nicole over the phone so that by the time of their meeting she will be completely unsuspecting of his intentions. In the telephone calls that Peter had made to Nicole he states that he has been experiencing some problems in an ongoing relationship due to low self-esteem, in Peters statement it is said that Nicole responds with concern to the problems. It is very easy to believe that Ms Patterson felt completely safe in her own home on the day of her death. The police were uncertain to know exactly how long Peter was with Nicole and what they were doing before he carried out his savage attack. Peters plan for Ms Patterson had now sadly become a reality as he struck her multiple times with a knife inflicting deep wounds, the weapon was never recovered. Ms Patterson received 27 stab wounds, and her breasts were completely cut from her body. They were never found and presumed that they were kept as a trophy. After checking the house for incriminating items, Mr Dupas left and returned home to carry on with his life as if nothing had ever happened.

Mens rea is knowing what you have done is wrong, in this case it is the fact that Peter Dupas attempted to remove any evidence from the crime scene that could potentially incriminate him. Also the fact that he would hide the mutilated body parts and weapon because he knows that those can be used to link him to the crime.
Peter also used a fake name and number so that he seemingly did not have any involvement in her murder
Actus reus is the act in which the accused was doing at the time.
Peter Dupas in this case stabbed Ms Patterson to death and then mutilated her body.
The case I have chosen is a murder case.
The guilty party, Peter Dupas had planned out and targeted a woman that he would then kill.
Malice aforethought is the premeditation or predetermination of the crime that was committed.
In Mr Dupas case malice aforethought is clear when he continuously calls Ms Patterson's phone and stalks her, learning what she does daily and who would be in her house at the time of the crime.
Peter planned his attack coming up with fake problems for her to listen to and even giving a fake name and number so that he could make an appointment to see her.
His continuous calls and the fake phone number he gave was the number of someone that worked for him

Peter Dupas had no defence because of his previous convictions. He just killed her because he wanted too.
The decision was unanimous, no one thought he was innocent.
- Peter Dupas was known for cutting ladies breasts completely of their body.
- He committed his first crime when he was 15
- His crimes increased in level of seriousness every time he got released.
Peter Dupas was sentenced to life in prison with no opportunity for parole.
I agree with this because he is a horrible person who has been convicted of other rape/murder.
