Public Law § 1-740

  • recognizes that Future Farmers of America (FFA) as an important part of the vocational education program

Purpose

  • require formal education to teach students to read and write
  • ensure each child is prepared for higher learning

Vocational Education Act

  • grants were provided so that vocational education programs could be maintained and would advance
  • jobs that were in demand received a majority of the funds
  • replaced the Smith-Hughes Act

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act

  • signed into law by President Barack Obama
  • created jobs, enhanced educational opportunities

Race to the Top

  • created so that students were successfully prepared for college or a career upon graduation
  • ensured that students could equally compete for a job anywhere in the country

Latin Grammar Schools

  • originated in Boston for boys that were going to hold leadership positions for the states or courts
  • created because Puritan families believed that once their leaders were gone, there wouldn't be any more trained individuals.

Boston English High School

  • the first public high school
  • offered the program Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
  • increases enrollment into a 4-year college

Massachusetts Law of 1647

  • in towns of 50 families, elementary schools were established
  • towns that comprised of over 100 families, established secondary schools and Latin grammar schools.
