Co-operation is the means through which members of a group achieve their common goals. It may involve designating roles, following certain protocols for speaking, or following guidelines for decision making.

Sometimes in order to protect the collective interest, individuals have to give up their personal interests. For example, people cannot smoke in public places, which protects the overall health of the collective even though it places limits on individual freedom.
In Canada, the concept of progressive taxation is applied to income taxes. The richer you are, the more you are taxed. Taxes go towards helping the collective by supporting social and public services. By taxing the rich, the class distinction between the wealthy and the poor can be eliminated.
The set of interests that members of a group have in common. The principle of collective interest states that while individual members may have individual interests, these interests are often better addressed by making them a common set of interests that the group can address together.
Safety is an issue for both individuals and the collective, however in order to ensure the collective safety of a population, individuals cannot own guns for personal safety. If no one has guns, the safety of the group is protected, even though individuals' interests are not. The collective interest must be put above the individual's.
Economic Equality is a means of ensuring that no individuals of the collective hold more power or wealth than the rest and it is based on any of the following aspects:
• People with larger incomes should pay more taxes
• All people should earn equal wages for work of similar value
• There should be a guaranteed annual income
• All people should share in the wealth
• There should be no private property
Economic equality is based on sharing all property. This helps create a society that is interdependent and prevents a wealth gap.
Faithful observance of the norms or standards imposed on members of a group as a condition of membership in the group. These norms can relate to conduct, values, or appearance.
Many religions require individuals to dress a certain way in accordance to the religion's beliefs and values. This adherence forces individual identity to be shaped by the collective’s, creating a sense of unity.
Students are expected to act in a certain way which allows for a teacher to maintain control and to actually be able to teach. These rules provide organization, and allow for efficiency and clear communication. Uniforms create a sense of collective identity and prevent individuals from standing out. Adhering to the code of conduct allows students to get the most out of their education.
In Canada, taxpayers all contribute to provide universal health care for all citizens. This means that the working class has to pay for those who cannot afford it otherwise. Society as a whole is considered responsible for the health of all of its citizens.
Collective responsibility means holding the whole group responsible for the actions of individuals (or individual groups) within the group. Collective responsibility asserts that there is no individual action for which the group cannot in some way be held accountable.
On sports teams, each member is responsible for the success of the team, the entire team has to face the consequences of an individual's failure. Therefore it’s important that everyone does their part and makes an equal contribution to the collective.
