Ceci's bioecological theory: propose that there are multiple cognitive potentials rather than a single intelligence.

The multiple abilities are biologically based and place limits in mental process however is shape by challenges and opportunities in the individual environment

Cognitive abilities

Traditional View

children from upper income families went on to became more successful adults than children from lower income families

Stephen Ceci (1990,197) build up its theory in order to emphasis on problem solving from incoherent Stengberg's theory.

Ceci's view context is essential demonstration of cognitive abilities

Context:

- personality

- motivation

- education

this context can be metal, social or physical

Ceci´s biological theory rejects the idea of a single general capacity.

Ceci proposes that intelligence rets on multiple cognitive potencials such as knowledge amassed in a particular domain, biolocial based and experience.

Cecis theory also argues again

st the traditional viwe that intelligence is related to a capacity for abstract thinking

Beliefs

Similarities

He believes that the ability to engage in complex thought is tied to knowledge gained in particular contexts or domains

Everyday intelectual performance cannot be explained by IQ testing alone.

Cecis biological theory is relatevely similar to the Sternberg´s theory. Both of them share the same subtheories and beliefs. However, Ceci thought that Sternberg´s theory was not completed.

Ceci extends Sternbergs theory by examining the role of context in greater depth.
