Future Strategy

Philosophy

The philosophy I used in the beginning of the game clearly has not worked as shown by the "last place" label. My strategy was to daily trade the gappers like in the real world, but for some reason occasionally there will be a 15 min delay which cost me thousands at a time. I then went into trading triple leveraged ETF's on whether the market would go up or down which worked great until I went on vacation and forgot to sell those stocks before I left so I came back to negative $5000.

After playing for a while I have come to the conclusion that the settings of the game chosen were chosen to discourage those who follow the market constantly so I think the best choice moving forward is to diversify my holdings and ride it out the rest of the game. Although if an opportunity rises where I see a stock rising points at a time it will be tough to resist.

Recovery

Market Watching

I follow the market pretty much all the time because it's something I enjoy doing and I understand different strategies to make money in the real world. I typically keep updated with warriortrading and yahoo finance and occasionally will check Zack's investment research. From this game I have learned a lot about how critical time is when entering a trade as well as managing safe vs. risky investments. I now understand that trading in the market can be extremely profitable but also can be costly.

In order to come back from such a loss I decided I needed to find a big winner. The stock market is simply following patterns and I realized that in general the market overreacts and then will recover immediately after.

DAKT

DAKT posted horrible earnings and I knew that the stock would drop a couple points, but because the settings don't allow me to short a stock I was unable to make money off that prediction. However, once I saw it reach its bottom I knew it would recover a bit so I invested all 95k I had at the time and was able to make a gain of +4k.
