The Eastern Crusades were carried out by those who were soldiers of the Catholic Church. Their hopes were to free "christian" lands, the Holy Lands, from Mohammedan rule. In answer to Pope Urban II's plea
French, German, and Italian Catholics marched to force a union of all peoples and sovereigns under direction of the popes. All crusades were announced by preaching.
During 900-1000 AD the Germanic tribes ran Europe and it was a very dark and violent period. There were virtually no heresies because there was no education and very little communication.
The result of the first crusades were the establishment
of Christian states in the Holy Lands. These were the
Kingdom of Jerusalem: the Count ship of Tripoli: the Principality of Antioch and the Count ship of Rohez. The pope held a loose grip on the East.
There have actually been several different inquisitions. The first was established in 1184 in southern France as a response to the Catharist heresy. This was known as the Medieval Inquisition, and it was phased out as Catharism disappeared.
There was not really a resolution to the Crusades and the Inquisition. The Catholics aka "Christians" got what they wanted.

An "Inquisition" is a legal inquiry. Historically there were three major Catholic Inquisitions. The Medieval Inquisition started around 1184 in response to the appearance of popular heretical movements throughout Europe, in particular Catharism and Waldensians in southern France and northern Italy.
