Red Giant

The Interstellar nebula

Neutron star

Like all stars Betelgeuse was born by an Interstellar Nebula and as the elements hydrogen and helium were fused, Betelgeuse started out as a main sequence or a pro star.

This is one of the options that this star has in the afterlife. A Neutron star is a left over of the Super Nova but is really small but then can have the mass of two or three suns.

This is where Betelgeuse is at right now. It got this way because when this star was a massive star it ran out of helium and made the outer layers cool and expand now becoming what Betelgeuse is today, but eventually it will become a Red Super giant.

The life cycle of Betelgeuse

Super Nova

Massive Star

In about 100,000 years Betelgeuse will eventually run out of fuel and then explode, this explosion is the end of the stars life and is called the Super Nova.

Black Hole

This is the third stage of Betelgeuse after the pro star. This happened because Betelgeuse ran out of hydrogen and expanded becoming a massive star. Now the star is bigger but also the star has a shorter life cycle.

This is the second way that Betelgeuse can end. The black hole is a space time region that no gravity can escape the pull and will never come back out.
