- Chemical
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Glazed and coated with a thin film of soot.
- To obtain permanent results, shellac and colophony saturated in alcohol is used.
- OUTSIDE - glossy, least resistance.
- INSIDE - rough, sticks to the drum.
- gives a graphical representation of spatial position over time in which a spatial axis represents time.
- it consists of a revolving drum wrapped with a sheet of paper on which a stylus moves back and forth recording perceived changes in phenomena.

ATTACHMENT
STYLUS
Used to record the contraction or relaxation of the isolated tissue preparation.
Can be made of light aluminum, stainless steel, wood, etc.
Usually light and fine but rigid to prevent bending and losing their sensitivity and efficiency.
Place the uncut portion of the stick to the muscle lever and hold it in place by softened wax.

RECORDING DRUM
- Recording drum is useful in recording the graph. The graph paper is placed on
the circumference of the drum during experiment for recording purpose.
- The Recording drum rotates at the speed which is selected using the keypads.
Hence the recording drum rotates at the speed of 0.12, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.25,
2.5,12.5, 25.0 mm/sec.
Its main purpose is to write a magnified record of the movement of the structure to which it is attached
weight maybe fastened
Used for the attachment of the thread or of the tendo-Achilles of the muscle
The pivot (fulcrum) lies at one end beyond the point of attachment.
e.g. Starling's or Heart Lever
LOWER LOOP
Class 2 Type
UPPER LOOP
The pivot (fulcrum) lies between the writing point and the point of attachment of the tissue.
e.g. Frontal Writing Lever
Class 1
Type
- made of aluminum wire
- slipped over the writing lever
- 1cm from the axis
