Turning Point/Climax

The climax of the story is when the bus takes a pit stop and Mim decides to hitch hike the rest of the way but then she meets Walt and Beck and they go to a baseball game together and go the rest of the way to Cleveland together.

The protagonists in the book are Caleb because he tried to take advantage of Walt for his money and when they find out he tries to attack them, and Poncho Man because he threatens Mim and stalks her.

Antagonist

The antagonists in the book are Mim, Beck, Walt, Arlene, her nephew Ahab because he saved them from a boy trying to take advantage of Walt, and at the end of the book Mary's Step-Mom Kathy.

Main Characters

The main characters in this book are a 16 year old girl named Mary Iris Malone (Mim)that runs away, an 15 year old boy named Walt whos Mom passed away and Dad left abandoned since Walt is autistic, and a 19 year old boy named Beck who left college to follow his dreams of being a photographer.

Summary

This book is about a 16 year girl named Mary Iris Malone (Mim for short). Mim's parents get divorced and she moves with her Dad and new Step-Mother to Missisipi, she finds out that her Mom has is sick and decides to take a bus to go see her in Cleveland. She takes a few of her belongings and gets a bus ticket, she meets an older lady named Arlene which has a special box to give to her nephew. The bus tips over and injures and kills people including Arlene, Mim takes the box and plans to get it to her nephew. Everyone goes to a motel for the night and sets out again, at a stop Mim gets off and decides to hitch hike and meets Walt he shows her his 'New Chicago' which is a camp site in the forest. They decide to go to Cleveland together and tries to buy a blue truck but cannot because they dont have a drivers license but Beck comes and helps them. Beck is a boy that was on the bus with Mim that she liked, they fell for each other but he said they should wait. They went to go see a girl that Beck's parents fostred but she didnt remember him, then they went to go see Mim's old house and Kathy (Mim's Step-Mom) found them and told Mim she would drive her to her Mom and Beck and Walt said goodbye but they decided to meet up at the next cubs game. Mim and Kathy reached the depression and abuse home where Mim's Mother was, Mim found out that it wasnt Kathy who said she wasnt allowed to see her Mom, it was her Mom. Then they drove back home and Mim found out she was going to have a new little sister.
