  • I Pledge Alligance To My Black People
  • I Pledge To Develop My Body and Mind To The Greatest Extent Possible
  • I Will Learn All That I Can In Order To Give My Best To My People In Their Struggle For Liberation
  • I Will Keep Myself Physically Fit, Building A Strong Body Free From Drugs Which Weaken Me
  • I Will Unselfishly Share My Knowledge and Understanding With Them In Order To Bring About Change More Quickly
  • I Will Discipline Myself To Direct My Energies Thoughtfully and Constructively rather than wasting them in idle hatred
  • I Will Train Myself To Never Hurt or Allow Others To Harm My Black Brothers and Sisters for I Recognize That We Need Every Black Man, Woman, and Child to be physically, mentally and psychologically strong
  • These Principles I Pledge Daily and To Teach Them To Others In Order To Unite My People

Arrested

Huey Newton is arrested in 1967 for shooting and killing a cop and is sentenced to 2 to 15 years.

The End

The organization begin to fall and it all fell to shambles. The Panthers gave the police a good 14 years before its end. the Panthers are still active but not as popular

The Demise

While Huey was serving his jail time, Bobby Seale turned to drugs and was killed in a dispute on the streets of Oakland in the early 80's

Bobby Hutton

Bobby Hutton was shot at 17 years old. He was the party's first treasurer. This death really was devastating and the party didn't take it well.

Fred Hampton

Fred Hampton the outstanding leader at the time was shot in an apartment and killed along with Mark Clark. 90 bullets were fired that night

The News

April 25, 1967 the party launched its first official news organ which soon reached news circulation 250,000.

Forgery

Many letters were forged to one of the party's very first members. Being distraught by the letters, Eldridge Cleaver came to hash things out with Huey Newton and ended up being removed from the party

In 1969 the Party launched its first free breakfast program for kids right before they went to school. They also tested kids for various diseases and check-ups in the Chicago departments.

MEMBERS

In 1967 there were only about 31 members but 1969 it grew to an outstanding 10,000 members and eventually grew even more.

It is a salute to express unity,defiance,and resistance.

THIS STRONG GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS FOUGHT FOR WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS RIGHT AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT WHAT THEY'VE DONE FOR THE COMMUNITY THEY ARE TRULT GREAT.
