Types of Physical Evidence

O. J. Simpson murder case

Physical evidence

Hair

The O.J. case is a prime example of how physical evidence is used in court to prove a point. In this case, the prosecution used a bloody glove (which is physical evidence) to try and support their argument that Simpson committed the murders. They also used physical evidence when they used the blood left in Simpsons car and on his clothes. This case is full of physical evidence and is a great example.

Physical Evidence is any, real, material evidence used in court to prove a point or make an argument. Its physical attributes are used as evidence to be used in court. Anything that you can touch or any thing is material can be considered physical evidence.

Testimonial Evidence

Testimonial evidence is a spoken or written testimony in court that attempts to prove what has been stated. Testimonial evidence includes hearsay and testimonies.

Crawford v. Washington

This is a court case that rules on hearsay. Micheal Crawford and his wife accused Kenneth Lee of attempting to rape Mrs. Crawford. Crawford ended up stabbing Lee in the torso claiming self defense. However, in court, Lee denied doing anything that provoked the attack. This case sets the standard when dealing with hearsay and the admission of hearsay statements in court
