Tsunamis can injure or kill people and animals. The water is so powerful that it brings the stuff or people back into the water and drowns them.
Animals can end up homeless, hungry, or without water. Some end up dead, injured, or found with physical or emotional issues. Some have no where to go. Others are just fine but may have very little injuries.
You can NOT prevent a tsunami because it is a natural disaster and the wave is too strong.
We can kinda predict a tsunami because if a 7.5 earthquake occurs in the ocean, a tsunami might form.
When the water is displaced then it rises and then gravity pulls it back down to sea level. Then, the wave starts moving towards the coastline and while the wave slows down, it gets bigger.
The biggest tsunami ever recorded was on the night of July 9, 1958. A 7.8 earthquake occurred, going into the Lituya Bay. 1958, Lituya Bay's mega tsunami wave was 1,720 feet tall (524 m.) and was still many tons of meters high further down the bay.
You can prepare for a tsunami by moving to higher grounds, have an emergency kit ready, and make a family communication plan. You can also evacuate but if that is not an option, do those other things. One last thing is to make a lot of these newer buildings stronger. You can file a complaint to the mayor about the buildings or try to contact the construction places.
