*The capitol of Texas is Austin.

Texas is the only state to have the flags of 6 different nations fly over it. They are: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States, and the United States.

*More land is farmed in Texas than in any other state.

*At 268,601 square miles, Texas is the largest state in the contiguous United States and is the second biggest state in the U.S. (only Alaska is bigger).

*Texas experiences the most tornadoes in the United States, with an average of 139 per year. Tornadoes occur most often in North Texas and the Panhandle.

Texas History

Texas parties and fiestas are very commonly celebrated for birthdays and holidays. Origination from Spain, their fiestas are very similar in the dancing styles and parties. Parties also come from southern roots, such as rodeos and line dancing and hoedowns.

Food

When spanish immigrants were coming to America in 1519, the settled on Texas, which had already been conquered by many Native America, which is how spanish culture was inherited to Texas.

Culture

Texas was explored in 1519 by Alonso Alvarez de Pineda, a spanish explorer. When more spanish immigrants came over, the culture was shaped into a southwestern, spanish culture. Immigrants from Mexico also influence the culture of Texas, because of how close texas is to Mexico. Southern culture is also very common in Texas.
