  • Michelangelo Bunarotti was born March 6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy
  • He was one of the most prominent sculptors, artists, and painters of the Renaissance.
  • Michelangelo came from a family involved in Italain politics.
  • At 13 years old he apprenticed painter Dominco Ghirlandaio
  • During his apprenticeship Michaelangelo was introduced to Lorenzo di Medici and encouraged to live at the patron's home in Florence.
  • In the Medici home, the young man was introduced to art, thought, and architecture, of ancient Rome and Greece.
  • In Rome by 1498, Michaelangelo was hired by the Roman Catholic Church to create a statue of Mary holding Jesus after the Cruxifiction called the "Pieta"
  • While in Florence during 1501, Muchaelangelo was hired to create a marble staue of the Biblical figure David.
  • In 1501, Michaelangelo was hired by Pope Julius II to create the SISTINE CHAPEL, a huge mural on the ceiling of the Vatican in Rome.
  • This mural depicts God creating Adam.

Who was Leonardo Da Vinci?

  • Da Vinci was a prominent painter and scholar during the Renaissance in Italy
  • He was born in Vinci, Italy on April 14, 1452 to Ser Piero (a merchant) and Caterina ( a peasant woman).
  • Da Vinci became an apprentice at age 15, to a prominent painter in Florence, Italy.
  • From his upbringings in the world of painting and knowledge, Da Vinci organized his own workshop in 1477
  • During the Renaissance he created many paintings such as "The Last Supper", "The Mona Lisa", and the "Baptism of Christ".
  • How did Da Vinci afford to make all of these paintings? PATRONS
  • But not only did Leonardo paint, he also created sketches such as a flying machine, weapons, and tanks.
  • He as well, dissected cadabers (dead bodies) to research the human anatomy and body.
