Anglo Saxon Houses

Anglo-Saxons houses were huts made of wood with roofs thatched with straw.

Much of Britain was covered with forests. The Saxons had plenty of wood to use. There was only one room where everybody ate, cooked, slept and entertained their friends.

The biggest house in an Anglo Saxon village was the Hall, the Chief's house. He lived there with his warriors. The houses were built facing the sun to get as much heat and light as possible.

Anglo-Saxon music

Anglo Saxons had a language

called old English. It was more

German than English.

Anglo Saxons used mainly one

musical instrument which was

the Harp.

Anglo Saxon Art!!!!!!!!

Anglo Saxon war

The Anglo Saxons liked making art.

Over The years they made some beautiful

stuff here it is:

Anglo Saxon armour

Anglo Saxon amour was often made of strong metals such as steel, copper and many others.

In 1939, just before second world war some archeologists discovered this exact helmet in Sutton Hoo, Suffolk and it is in the british museum today.

Beowulf

Anglo-Saxon armies were usually small, with only a few hundred men. The soldiers had spears, axes, swords and bows and arrows. They wore helmets on their heads and carried wooden shields. Everyone fought on foot during a battle. It must have been a bit like a giant rugby scrum, with lots of pushing and yelling, and nasty wounds.

The most feared Anglo-Saxon weapon was a battle axe, but the most precious weapon was a sword. It took hours of work by a smith to craft a sword. He softened iron in a red-hot fire, twisted iron rods together and hammered the sword into shape.

At first Beowulf was a poem in the language called old English which is also known as Latin today. But very recently they made it into a film and a trilogy of books.

It also includes a monster called Grendel which is one of the pictures here. In this Heroic adventure Beowulf fights 7 monsters who turn out to be really weird.

Time for a song

Jutes

According to Bede, the Jutes were one of the three most powerful Germanic peoples of their time in the Nordic Iron Age, the other two being the Saxons and the Angles. The Jutes are believed to have originated from the Jutland Peninsula (called Iutum in Latin) and part of the North Frisian coast.
