When creating my object-based project, I wanted to incorporate movement and visual aids to help progress through my poem selection. Rather than just reading “Reservation Love Song” from the book and creating your own image in your mind, I wanted to incorporate movement using Prezi and to aid with the visuals by using pictures that I found on Google Search. I think that by doing this, it offers a more entertaining medium to experience this poem in. One difficult encounter I experienced while creating this rendition of the poem was to keep the message of the poem itself intact. I didn’t want to take anything away from the uniqueness of the poem but at the same time I wanted to be able to add a little bit of flare. I think what is lost in translation through this version of the poem is the ability for the reader to access his or her own thoughts easily. I think that provided visuals for an audience, you are kind of painting a picture of what you want them to see rather than allowing their imagination to do that for them. With that being said, I think that can also be an add-on to this assignment. I think that it also allows the students imaginations to flourish with having a base of what to set their interpretation of off. Going off of my last comment, I believe digital texts allow an audience to flourish by guiding them in a direction that will lead them to the deeper meaning of the poem. It is because of this that an audience may also lose the part where their minds create the image themselves. This skill is important to have and by providing images, it may deteriorate the audience’s ability to create their own images.
