How can we prevent vandalism?

-Saturday July 8th,2013

-$10,000 smashed horse statue

-$500 being awarded to whomever catches the vandal

-vandalism is the destruction of property

-the main causes of vandalism are peer pressure such as gangs

-some examples are: graffiti, breaking unowned belongings, gang graffiti,(wrecking a place)

-I am focusing more on graffiti vandalism because it is one of the main vandalism types

BAD:

-peer pressuring someone into something that they don't want to do

-doing gang graffiti

- vandalizing your own school(costs thousands to fix it up

-at the school last year i spotted people vandalizing

-near the new wing, there was a picture that a vandal drew

- This happened May 21st, 2014

- 3 murals were vandalized on a buildings( supporting kids with dissabilities or special needs

-east vancouver

- Vandals tagged "oil spill"and "no pipelines"

- people very dissapointed about it

-smashed Mar.29,2014-2:25 pm

-paws and head smashed off

-happened at the south end of the bridge

-2nd time getting vandalized

Is getting handed a spray can scary to you?If so,follow these steps on how to handle it..

-tell an adult you trust(principal,teacher,parent)

-stay away from the person that forced you to vandalize

-prove self worth to others

-win approval of others

-want to look cool and go with the crowd or group

-don't feel good about self esteem, so they will often vandalize to express themselves.

Here are a few ways on how we can prevent vandalism.......

- If graffiti is seen, remove it right away to show that it won't be tollerated

- Improve lighting- people like to vandalize in dim light so they won't get caught

- Report it to police or an adult

GOOD:

-suggesting different ideas (instead of graffiti, take an art class that twaches you graffiti)

-support your friend(help through the times when they get pressured)

-avoid gangs(in this case graffiti gangs)

-do art graffiti in appropriate places instead

Try these things when being forced or facing peer pressure.Someone you know you is forcing you to try out their new graffiti spray can over on the building over there. Turns out, that building is your school. What do you say?

a) Be honest towards them

b) don't talk again to them

c) tell an adult about the issue
