The Conflict of Treasure Island

Conflict - the problem facing a character(s)

The main conflict of Treasure Island is that Long John Silver is trying to steal the treasure from Jim & his friends.

The Inciting force

The inciting force of Treasure Island is the map because without it the squire & doctor would never have found out about it.

This in turn would never had made the squire blab to everyone that they had the map.

Therefore Long John Silver would never have heard about the map because it didn't exist.

finally Silver wouldn't have led a mutiny to try to get the treasure & the map because there was no map so it was almost impossible to find the treasure.

Types of conflict

Man V. man - a person set against another person

Man V. nature - a person struggling against the setting

Man V. Society - a person against a group of people

Man V. Self - A person struggling with his/her own feelings

There are three of the four types of conflict in this story they are:

Man V. Man

Man V. Nature

& Man V. Society

Man V. Man because of when Jim had to fight off the drunken sailor from the ship. Also when Jim had to fight the sailor that came at him in the stockade. Even when John the crew mate fought John Silver.

Man V. Nature because they had to take a ship to the island. Also when Jim is in the raft and he couldn't move without getting soaked. Even when Ben was marooned it caused problems for him.

We have Man V. Society because Jim and his friends are against the whole crew when they are in the stockade. It is also because of whenJim and his mom are trying to get people to protect the Benbow. This happens even when John Silver is faced with mutiny.

This conflict could happen in real life but it's less likely to happen in America because we're are more organized. It's more likely to happen in more unbalanced countries where people are more likely to be more self centered.
