The difference between Kingship and Tyranny / Kingship and the difference between appropriate use of power and tyranny.

Why is this theme important?

- In Shakespeare’s time a King was considered to be god’s representative on earth.

- Duncan is always referred to as a “king,” while Macbeth soon becomes known as the “tyrant.”

- The king must be loyal to Scotland above his own interests.

- A country's suffering or prosperity is a direct reflection of the moral nature of its King.
