What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?

Who I want to produce my film?

conglomerate and independant film companies

The company I want to produce my film is DNA films. DNA are an independent British company who produced blockbusters; 28 days later and Love actually. They have produced smaller films like The History Boys and The Last King of Scotland.

The reason I chose DNA is because they are independent so will experiment with the juxtaposing ideas within the narrative that conglomerate companies might change or disagree with. They have produced big films, so know how to get the best results from the narrative and create the best film.

Conglomerate: Warner Bro's, 20th century fox, Universal, Paramount, Columbia pictures (owned by Sony) and Disney.

Independent: DJ films, Big talk productions, DNA films, Ealing studios.

Advantages

Independent companies have a small workforce, so a major advantage is that you can work very close to the company and be in their shadow.

Being independent means they will listen to any changes or verdicts that you have as they do not have the power of a conglomerate to say no to any decisions made by yourself and have to run any decisions they make, by you first.

Disadvantages

The budget is a major disadvantage as an independent company does not have the major millions to spend on films that conglomerate companies have.

Being a small company and small budget film, the appeal to top actors is going to be very low. However it is an opportunity for new actors to possibly breakthrough into film.

A small company will not appeal as much to the large film festivals such as Cannes.
