The novel is about a Korean family trying to deal with living under Japanese rule

Clothes were much different back then.

The kids in the novel had to learn how to write in kanji.

Japanese soldiers would treat some koreans bad.

The author is Linda Sue Park.

In the novel, the koreans could not show their country's flag.

Korean houses in the 1940's.

In this novel the little girl got hit by her teacher for not calling her classmate by their Japanese name!

The girl's father was a vice principal of a school in the novel.

Koreans had to change their names to Japanese names.

Korea lies west from Japan.

Korean girls were not allowed to know what the elder men knew.

Koreans ate on low tables.

What the Koreans had to go through was very sad and somtimes painful.

Korea is now 2 seperate countries with their own government and leaders.
