Conclusion

How it relates to today

As shown throughout this presentation, it is clear biology was an important area for Greeks. Not only have they given us the foundation of biology, but have continued to add to this topic.

Citations

  • Contributions then affect our biology today. One example is Aristotle, who made contributions to the study of zoology.

  • A greek doctor, Galen, discovered around 100 of the medical tracts in the body by dissecting pigs and apes.

  • He proved that blood travels through the arteries, not air.

  • Most of the ancient customs contributed to the foundation of biology, but Eresos was one of the first reported scientist to contribute to this area.

• Zoology is a study of animals

•The word "zoology" comes from two Greek words "zoion"

which means "animals" and "logos" meaning "study".

•Animals were classified first in 4th century B.C.E. by a philosopher Aristotle.

•In the middle ages, Greek and Roman workers worked together to do research on zoology.

Botany is the study of the plant life, In that time the only studies were for medicine.

Eresos was a scientist, and first discovered they were around 5,000 plant species.

Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and India were the first countries to use greek botany.

  • An economic entomologist, Eresos, was the first person to give information about living things.

  • Even in that time, the teaching of life was a subject in school.

  • The word "biology" comes from "bios" meaning "life", and "logos" meaning "study"
