How to make a RIDDOR report

When do I report an incident?

To make a RIDDOR report you should use the online form provided on the HSE website and then the form will be directly submitted to the RIDDOR database

Accidents resulting in:

  • death
  • specified injuries eg. broken arm
  • non-fatal accidents
  • dangerous occurrences

These incidents should be reported within 10 days

If accidents resulting in 7 days incapacitation of a employee, must notify the enforcing authority within 15 days of the incident.

What records I need to keep

You must keep a record of any reportable injury, over a 3 day injury, disease or dangerous occurrence. You can print or save a copy of the online form. A copy of the form will be automatically emailed to the email address provided by reporter.

  • The employer or the supervision in control of the premisses
  • A member of the public, employee, injured individual or their representative
  • road traffic accidents
  • violence at work
  • injuries in schools
  • gas incidents
  • suicide and self harm
  • occupational diseases
  • there are many others as well
  • Deaths and injuries caused by work placed accidents
  • occupational diseases
  • carcinogens (a chemical substance that can cause cancer), mutagens (physical or chemical agent that changes genetic material usually DNA) and biological agents
  • specified injuries to workers eg. broken bones
  • dangerous occurrences
  • gas incidents
