Case Description

The case added to the 4th amendment, which protects unreasonable searches and seizures, by allowing police much broader powers to search vehicles without a warrant.

California police officers witnessed a man named Charles Acevedo entering an apartment containing several packages of marijuana. Acevedo left shortly after carrying a paper bag identical to the packages in the apartment. As he was driving away, the officers stopped him, searched his car, and found the marijuana,
