How did Rome Expand?

In 1000 BC Rome was a settlement of farmers and shepherds in the middle of Italy. Over the next thousand years, it developed into a powerful city/state, and became the capital of an empire that stretched from Britain in the north to Arabia in the south. The Romans finally won the battle and by 260 BC, they owned all of Italy. Next, the Romans defeated the Carthaginians, and then by 100 BC gave Rome control of the Mediterranean.

The Fall of Rome

Most of the factors of the fall of Rome were from bad leadership and bad decisions. When Rome switched from a republic to an empire (during the rein of Augustus Caesar) was one of the best years that the Roman Empire had. Caesar took advice from the other people that actually made the city better.

Major Contributors of the Rise of Rome

Augustus Caesar was one of the major contributors to the rise of Rome. He took advice from his people and made the city better. Julius Caesar was also one of the major contributors to the city of Rome. Julius made new laws that also made the city better!

Contributions of famous Romans

Cupid (The God of Love): He makes people fall in love with his arrows. Cupid once scratched himself with one of his own arrows by mistake. He was looking at a woman called Psyche, and fell in love with her.

Maia (The Goddess of Growth): She Helps grow everything that romans need to survive. Without her supposedly nothing would have grown.

Jupiter (King of Gods):His weapon was thunder and lightning. He was the ruler of the gods, he was in charge.

Pluto (God of Death): People were afraid to say his real name (Hades) because the romans thought he would notice and they would die. After someone died they would have to go through the river of death also known as Styx.

How Rome was Organized

There was no dictator, Julius Caesar (the dictator once they had one) hadn't come along yet. So the citizens of Rome elected representatives who ran the government, is the same we do today. There were three main branches of Rome each branch had a little control of the other. The oldest and most powerful was the senate, the senate was controlled by partisans who were noble and owned big pieces of land. They also had lots of manes, it was the senates job to control how Rome behaves toward Its neighbors. They also controlled how Rome's money was spent. The second branch was the assembly, they were a group of representatives elected by every person that wasn't a slave. They needed to protection because they didn't know what their rights were. The patricians were the only ones who knew all the Rome laws. The patrictians also agreed to write the laws down on a tablet of stone and post them in the forum for all to see. The laws were seen as the "twelve tables". The third branch was the consuls, who served for a year. They were elected by the assembly but mostly did what the senate told them to do. The consuls were Rome's old military leaders and highest judges. They had a lot of power!

In the first century of Rome a new religion took called Christianity. People who worshiped Christianity were also known as Christians. Also Christianity worshiped one god and refused to worship all the roman gods witch the time was illegal so Christians were hunted as criminals.

The life of a roman solider was simple but hard. If you entered from your own will or were put in you had to serve for 25 years. There were some requirments that had to be met to join. You would have to be a roman citizen and you had to be at least 20. some rules were not really allowed to get married. the reason I say not really is because some times it did happen in secret or there was an exception to the rule. When you left the military there were some options open for you to choose from you could collect a pension or you were gifted some farm land. If you were old you could move in to a military town.

100 BC and on...

Roman society was divided into five category. From the top down it was Senators, Equestrians, commons, free people and slaves. Senators were basically a group of presidents so they were the top of society. Next came the Equestrians witch were soldiers on horses that went about the sheets to keep the peace and to protect the citizens from outsiders. Then came the commons that were common they were your every day common working citizen. After them is the free people witch were people that were freed slaves, kicked out of the military or any thing else that other people would find dishonorable. And last and very lowest is slaves. Slaves were either captured people or criminals.
