Prevention

There is obviously nothing you can do to stop an earthquake from happening but you can get notified of an earthquake occurring using a seismograph.

Nepal

Vegetation Water Systems

Nepal is a country in Asia and is the 94th largest nation in the world in area. The population of Nepal is 29,890,686. The people of Nepal are referred to as Nepalese. Nepal shares land borders with 2 countries: India and China. The Capital of Nepal is Kathmandu.

Nepal is a landlocked nation, and since it is a landlocked nation the water that they have in Nepal is not safe and is polluted.

Main type of natural vegetation are:

-Subtropical Evergreen Forest

-Temperate Deciduous Forests

-Alpine Vegetation

-Tundra Vegetation

Mitigation

There are many ways of reducing the impact of earthquakes, such as securing furniture, and building structures that meet current standards for earthquake prone areas.

About Nepal

Preparedness

  • Nepal is a mountainous area
  • Temperatures range from 30 degrees Celsius and below 0 degrees Celsius
  • End June to end September are wet seasons
  • April to beginning of June are dry seasons

To prepare for an earthquake fasten shelves securely to walls, any outdoor electrical wiring that needs to be repaired should be done right away.

Response

Earthquakes

During an earthquake it is best that people should not move around or try to get out of the building. If there is an earthquake and you are in a multiple story building you should never try to attempt evacuating using the elevator or staircases. It is safer to wait inside under desks or large pieces of furniture.

My natural disaster that I chose was Earthquakes. An earthquake is the violent shaking of the ground caused by movements of Earth's tectonic plates. Most earthquakes occur along fault lines, which is where two tectonic plates come together.

Why Earthquake?

Recovery

First check that no one is injured, if there are injured get first aid immediately, be prepared for aftershocks which are normal following an earthquake, stay away from beachy areas because of the danger of tsunamis.

As for my disaster, I have chosen earthquakes because in April of 2015, Nepal had suffered from an earthquake with magnitude of 7.8 which killed 9,000 people.

My Action Plan

My action plan is to donate to charities working with Nepal, send materials, first aid supplies and other to Nepal.

There are 10 vetted relief work charities that are helping with Nepal those charities are:

  • AmeriCares,
  • CARE,
  • Catholic Relief Services,
  • Direct Relief,
  • GlobalGiving,
  • International Relief Teams,
  • Operation USA,
  • Save the Children,
  • Seva Foundation,
  • World Help
