IIPE is different from other international conferences as its small size allows us to make deep connections and develop a level of comfort with our colleagues which we can miss out on in the “academic” world. The breadth of emotions that I both witness and experience at IIPE take me out of my comfort zone and allow me to reconnect with the spirit that drives me to do this work. When I leave the Institute, I am sad to go, but I have renewed energy and inspiration that reinvigorate my work. I feel so privileged to be a part of this learning community.

Please find the photograph which I like the most. Reason behind is that it gives symbolically a message of peace, belongingness & feeling of WE.

Erin Dunlevy
This is a photo of the poetry duet Shadrak and I performed on culture night. It's significant to me because of my relationship with this amazing person, which would never have happened if it weren't for IIPE.

Tony Jenkins

Sometimes the task of peace education is to make the invisible visible. Moments move by quickly - one to the next to the next - and while we think we see the "whole" we often miss observing the dynamic moments that happen in-between. IIPE is a space where we can reflect on and learn from those in-between spaces. This picture captures one of those moments... everyone is stunned by Danielle's fluid intensity; her feet beating out a pattern of her heart and her scarf mesmerizing with its magical flamenco movement. With a little luck I was able to capture the moment when it appears the scarf is transforming into a flying dove, taking flight with the message of peace and hope that all IIPE participants might carry with them.

This picture represents hope, intention, work, disruption of the status quo, movement, cooperation, and the peace we will construct with our students, colleagues, families, and communities. Pictured here are peace educators from six countries and three continents, smiling, working together, connected, united. Wherever we are, we will work to build a peaceful future. Knowing this work is going on all over the world gives me energy and makes me feel hopeful. Keep moving! Peace!

This picture represents the unity and camaraderie of, not only my Reflection Group, but of the entire IIPE family. We shared, reflected, questioned, defined and re-defined. We addressed some of the most pressing problems and resolutions to each individual in their field, as well as the collective group and our global society. In each one's wholeness, the collective became more cohesive. The amount of respect, happiness, and shared learning that happened within my reflection group gave me a strength of empathy. I thank each member of the IIPE for who they are as an individual, and for the better person they made me become, as a result of our collective.

Dale Snauwaert

This photo of Tony and Liu Tauras is striking to me: it captures a moment of peace and solitude, one moment in time, a moment of contemplation amidst an experience of dialogue; it expresses the importance of reflection for building a more just and peaceful world.

Danielle Goldberg

This photo captures a significant part of my IIPE experience. On an intellectual level, I gained valuable skills, experiences and theoretical tools I will apply to my work in peace education around the world. On an emotional level, I gained a revitalized sense of community and support. As we struggle to challenge ourselves personally and professionally to have the greatest impact as peace educators, there comes an important moment where we can just be with each other, with no agenda. “We’re holding hands right now… because that’s what we’re doing.” There is no need to “fix” or “change” anything about ourselves or our individual or collective journeys. We find peace in the still and quiet moments of acceptance, appreciation and silence. I carry that feeling with me from my IIPE community.

Peace is found when you look into yourself. It is about being and observing. Accept, respect and love yourself and there will be peace in the world.
