Before becoming a profiler, you must be an FBI Agent. This means that you have to go through the FBI Academy (which involves both classroom and physical training)

DEFINITION

Profiling is defined as the recording and analysis of a person's psychological and behavioral characteristics, so as to assess or predict their capabilities in a certain sphere or to assist in identifying a particular subgroup of people.

How profiling helps crime

Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU)

Profiling crime helps to predict the criminals next move; therefore, law enforcement can get in front of the unsub to catch them.

A department of the United States FBI's National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC) that uses behavioral sciences to assist in criminal investigations.

My opinion

I believe that profiling is very beneficial for stopping criminals and getting one step ahead of them to catch them.
