Assignment 3: Technology Adoption Plan

Plan for implementing Chromebooks

Potential Problems

Modern hubs of learning

Some problems that may arise with the Chromebook are:

  • the lack of a printer
  • when the network is down there is not much you can do on the device offline
  • there are classroom management problems at times
  • the devices may get damaged or stop working

Staff Development

  • Tech devices promote collaboration between teachers and students
  • Students are empowered because they know alot about technology, sometimes more than the teacher.
  • ELL students thrive with technology
  • Promotes engaging, productive classrooms

Chromebooks

Benefits:

Limitations:

A staff development plan for adoption is a crucial component of the Chromebook implementation process to help teachers become proficient at developing lessons involving the use of the Chromebook.

  • Limited storage
  • No printing
  • Need Internet connection
  • Low cost
  • Compatible with Google apps
  • Ready to use in seconds
  • No viruses
  • Physical keyboard
  • minimal time on how to use the device
  • the rest of PD should be:
  • getting staff familiarized with Google apps
  • classroom management of Chromebook use
  • how Chromebooks can be used within the curriculum
  • web-resources
  • technology-based assessments

Evaluation

Ways to increase student achievement with technology

develop a “technology use” self-evaluation rubric for teachers.

monitor student engagement for purposeful use (products created by students wth technology, student surveys, etc.)

iPads

  • researching topics on the Internet
  • creating presentations
  • work collaboratively with each other students
  • communicate with other students or guest lecturers around the world
  • watch flipped lessons
  • create a classroom website or blogspot

Benefits:

  • Portable
  • Fun and easy to use
  • Long battery life

Limitations:

  • No printing
  • No keyboard
  • Expensive apps

Assignment #1 School Technology Plan

Develop a plan for a 1:1 initiative for every student in the Sioux Falls School District to have a laptop or mobile device.

Assignment #2 Cost comparison

Comparing Chromebooks, iPads and Windows Laptops

Recommendations

1st- Chromebooks

2nd- iPads

3rd- Windows PC

Windows PC

Limitations:

  • Expensive
  • Time-consuming
  • Viruses
  • Needs software

Benefits:

  • Durable
  • Ample memory
  • Printing
  • Keyboard
  • Many offline capabilities

Efficient plan

A 1:1 technology initiative is more useful than having a computer lab, a mobile computer cart, or bringing your own device to class.
