What Does the Legislative Branch Do?

Made up of two houses, House of Representatives and the Senate. They make laws. In Congress laws are made and written.

What are the jobs of the Executive Branch?

The president is in charge of the Executive Branch and he makes laws official. The president approves laws.

Primary Jobs of the Judicial Branch

Supreme Court is head of this branch. The Judicial Branch explains the meaning of the Constitution. They also explain the laws that Congress has passed. The Supreme Courts job is reviewing laws to see if they are Constitutional or Unconstitutional.

Qualifications for House of Representatives

  • Must be at least 25 years old
  • Must be a citizen of the United States for at least 7 years.
  • Must live in the state he/she has been elected

Serve 2 terms

Can be elected for an unlimited amount

Qualifications of for the Senate

  • Must be at least 30 years old
  • Be a citizen of the United States for at least 9 years
  • A Senator must be living in the state he/she has been elected

Term- 6 years

Can be reelected for an unlimited amount

Qualifications and Terms of President

President

  • Natural born citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 35 years old
  • Has been a resident of the U.S. for 14 years

Term-

4 years and can run for two terms

Vice President Terms and Qualifications

Same as president-

  • 35 years old
  • Natural born citizen
  • Lived in the U.S. for 14 years

Term

  • 4 years
  • Can be elected for two terms

Cabinet Terms and Qualifications

The Cabinet cannot be a sitting Governor, Senator or member of the House of Representatives, they must resign before becoming a member on the Cabinet. The president nominates the members of the Cabinet. The Senate votes on the new members. The members doesn't necessary have a specific "term" the current president can fire them at his discretion.

The "term" they do serve is as long as the president is in office. President's term is 4 years and can be reelected once.

The Cabinet is in charge of giving advice to the president.

The president nominates the federal judge. The Senate approves the nominee. There are no specific requirements to be on the Federal Court. They are appointed for life terms.
