This fad began when a friend of actor Alvin "Shipwreck" Kelly dared him to sit on a flagpole for 13 hours and 13 minutes and that is what he did. Then many other people wanted to beat Alvin's record for fame and money. Some of their records were 12-21 days. Alvin continued sitting on poles and he traveled around America showing amazing demonstrations. Then, he was able to beat a record with a stunt that lasted 49 days in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The 1920's was when designers tried out different patterns, styles and materials for clothes and they would finish off with vibrant colors. Women took advantage of these styles and their freedom of exposing their legs by by wearing stockings that had patterns on them and they would wear it just below the knee. Also, after the first world war, women's fashion became more masculine. For instance, loose clothing, shapeless dresses, broad shoulders, and short hair.
Capitalizing on this success, Baker sang professionally for the first time in 1930, and several years later landed film roles as a singer in Zou-Zou and Princesse Tam-Tam.
Plus pants were worn by golf players and tennis players would wear trousers with V-necks, which would be casually worn in public by fans of tennis players and their fashion.
Young men had wide legged trousers (oxford bags), jackets were more slim and they were also vibrant with colors that reflected the enjoyment of life during the roaring 20s. Also, no man would go out in public without a panama straw hat or a felt fedora.
