Hetalia is an anime/manga based off of a web comic created by Hidekazu Himaruya.
It takes the stereotypes of countries and personifies that country with those stereotypes. It then shows events throughout history with interactions between these 'Hetalians'.
Season one, in it's main plot, takes place during WW2, although there is a sprinkle of other events in which the personifications show through social interactions.
