Within Ontario there are many collages and University offering programs for network engineering. Some collages are George Brown, Cambrian, Sheridan, Humber, and Mohawk. Some Universities are University of Toronto, Waterloo, York University and Carleton University. When applying for one of these colleges or universities it is recommended that you have some prior knowledge about the field. Some good courses are Computer Science, Business and Computer Programming. When it comes to high school experience on Network Engineering there are not a lot of opportunities. Students might be more interested in the field if they have the chance to explore it in their high school years. When the students are deciding on what they want to do in the future, having more high school courses on Network engineers will help them decide. This way it is not only promoting Network engineers but it is growing the career.

A network engineer is a technology professional who has the necessary skills to plan, implement and support the computer networks that support in-house voice, data, video and wireless network services.

What training and education is needed?

Is there a demand for Network Engineers in our country?

The training needed to become a network engineer involves training in Computer systems analysis, Electrical engineering, Technology education, Computer and information science Computer engineering Management information systems. They must also have a Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) which validates them to be able to have the ability to install, operate and trouble shoot small enterprises and basic network security. They must also have Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) which is an intermediate level networking endorsement that validate the ability to install, configure, operate and trouble shoot medium-size routes and switched networks. A Certified Novell Engineer is also needed along with Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and finally CompTIA Network+ which covers the latest skills needed by technicians, including the basics on how to properly secure a network which is a nine month training experience. A Bachelor’s degree is required or some employers may ask for a MBA a Masters of Business Administration degree. Degrees in computer science, information systems or computer engineering are also needed with a 5-10 year experience in the network administration.

There is actually a very high demand for network engineers throughout Canada. Companies employ network engineers to structure their network, make sure that all technology is in order, and check if its running smoothly. Network engineers are the professionals when it comes to networking, and companies want people who understand the growing and complicated technology that exists today.
